Re-Established on September 11, 2002
My Father, our founder and inspiration, always loved working with wood. After his departure from
the B & O Railroad, due to health problems, he would spend his time making rocking horses for the
children in the neighborhood. He realized then that they could combine his love for woodworking and
the Railroad. With his wife Sue, they founded Harris Station Crafts. He would cut the horses out of
raw wood, hand assembles them and Sue would stain them and weave the manes. Once they were
assembled, he would test them because he never wanted a child to get hurt or injured from one of
his creations. He felt that everyone should be able to afford a high quality, hand-made horse for
their kids to hand down to their kids. He loved going to the Craft shows and visiting with people as
much as he loved making the horses.
After my Dad passed away, I inherited his tools, patterns and his passion for woodworking. My wife
Helen, our daughter Felisa (who keeps us supplied in wood) and I have tried to keep the tradition
alive. Along with a lot of guidance from Sue, we continue to make the horses, with the same quality
and craftsmanship that my Father taught me. We have expanded our line of handmade craft
products. You can see our whole line of products on our Products page.
Each horse takes 35 to 42 hours to build. Each one is built from scratch; fully assembled no
assembly required; hand stained and woven. Our horses have been shipped as far away as San
Diego CA, but are mostly shown in the eastern half of the U.S at the finest arts and crafts show.
Our products have shown at the following Craft Shows:
Rugby Spring Heritage Festival, Rugby TN
Townsend Arts and Crafts Festival, Townsend TN
Fall Festival of Leaves, Bainbridge OH
My wife and I are members of the Blount County Arts and Crafts Guild, Maryville, TN
All of our other items, such as the carousel horses, quilt racks, wooden strollers, rubber band guns
and all specialty items are all made of the finest 5/4 North Georgia Pine that can be found.
It is our hope that you enjoy these hand-made horses as much as we enjoy making them.
